Rose A Greer August 3 1936 July 18 2019

August 3 1936 July 18 2019
Rose (Rosie) A Greer (Nee Perlingiero) “went home” to her Lord Jesus on Thursday, July 18, 2019. She was born in Trenton, NJ to Charles & Theresa Corsi Perlingiero on August 3, 1936. Rose, one of six children, grew up in “the burg,” attending Washington Elementary School, Junior High School No. 4 and graduating from Trenton Central High School in 1954. Rosie worked for New Jersey Division of Pensions until the birth of her first child, Charles, Jr. (Chuck) was born in 1956. John (Jackie) was born in 1959. It was her joy to help raise her grand-daughter, Michelle. As a young mother, Rose worked at Taylor Provisions for 13 years prior to taking a position as a clerk with Hamilton Township. She served the township for nearly 24 years, working with the Public Works Department and Recreation Department until her retirement in 2001. Rosie was active in the local community with music and drama. She participated in the Mercer County Chorus for over 15 years. She performed in local theater with Hamilton Theatre Two, Artist’s Showcase, and Theatre By The Lake. Rosie started as a member of chorus and eventually had supporting and main acting roles in a variety of musicals, including: Bye, Bye Birdie, Show Boat, and many others. Rosie’s love for acting connected her to deeper Faith in Christ through a ministry at Capital Assembly of God in Hamilton, NJ. Her first Sunday, as a visitor in 1978, they announce the formation of a Drama Group, The Parable Players. Rosie often said, “I knew at that very moment that this was the church for me!” She performed in countless plays and musicals as well as singing in the church choir for nearly 20 years. Rosie became a member of the church in July of 1979 and fell in love with helping missionaries, supporting a variety of ministries on a monthly basis for nearly 40 years. It was obvious to many of Rosie’s long-time friends that her personal relationship with Christ was the sustaining force through all of life’s struggles. Rosie was active in the Hamilton Republican Committee, serving as a pollster, election worker, official challenger and District Chairwoman throughout the years. Rosie loved the Mayor of Hamilton, as long as he/she was Republican. She kept pictures of herself and the current Mayor in her purse at all times. Rosie created fun wherever she went. In 1989 she decided to “crash” a Men’s Convention in Burlington, NJ where football player Rosey Greer was the featured speaker. Just as he was being introduced to deliver a message to over 500 men, Rosie burst through the rear door shouting, “Hey, I’m Rosie Greer!” She proudly kept a photo in her purse of that moment when she stood next to Rosey for a hug. Rosie spent her retirement years impacting her community at Pond Run Senior Housing in Hamilton, NJ through the simple act of friendship. She befriended everyone. She loved to celebrate her birthday with as many people from her building as would come, buying the food and party supplies herself. Her love for her neighbors extended from buying groceries to even loaning funds for car repairs. She initiated a Bible Study that continues today. Most Friday evenings she could be found with her Michigan Rummy friends. Rosie loved to use technology for entertainment and relationship. She learned how to program her VCR, and later DVR, better than most. She quickly learned how to use a PC and the Internet, perfecting the use of the “Fwd” button to the chagrin of most people on her contact list. Rosie also mastered the art of call forwarding and cell phones early in their history – and refused to part with her handy flip-phone. It was technology that kept Rosie connected to her friends and family no matter where she or they were. And it didn’t matter if she couldn’t hear your response, she mastered the art of the one-sided conversation. Rosie never let her passion for people be far from her memory. She saved photos, mementos and news clippings from every era of her life; her parents and family; her boy’s early years and their careers; drama, and choir performances; work & political events; church functions; and all her “grandkids.” She saved news clippings of Chuck’s early music career and Mother’s Day cards throughout the years. She was so grateful for the conversations that she and “Chucky” had by phone in recent months. And her largest collection was of all the exciting things that She and Michelle did together throughout the years. Rose was an “overcomer.” She didn’t hide from her troubles, but rather took them to the Lord. And she prayed everyday for her family, friends and church. Rosie had memorized scripture, not from repetitious effort, but from repeatedly praying it over people every day. She is a prayer warrior that will be missed. In the last few months, Rosie received personal care from three beautiful “angels” who grew to love her like a grandma. Jackie, Jadda & Valencia went above and beyond the job to show her love, encouragement and compassion. She never claimed or tried to fake perfection; she just kept growing in love with her Lord, who she was anxious to meet in person. And Rosie got her wish in a surprising and fitting way. Just a week before her death, she was praising the Lord for the strength to finally be coming home from a rehabilitation center. No one anticipated that this “homecoming” would be so much more than a physical sign of recovery. God had better plans for this Rose. Rosie went home before the nurse could wake her; before her friend could pick her up. Rosie stepped into Eternal Glory in the early morning hours of the day when she was to return to her apartment. Rosie was preceded in death by: her parents: all five siblings; son, Jackie Greer; and granddaughter, Michelle Greer-Ingersoll. She is survived by her son, Charles (Chuck) Greer of Margate, FL, and her two “adopted” sons, Alex Boucher of Hamilton, NJ and Matt Pottiger II of North Charleston, SC. She is also is survived by countless nieces, nephews and a host of friends, including her Best Friend, Anne Amato. In lieu of flower (Rosie hated cut flower), donations can be directed to Latin America Child Care by way of the Foreign Missions Fund at Capital Assembly of God, Hamilton, NJ. A birthday reception will be held for the residents of Pond Run Housing on August 3, 2019. And a public Celebration of Life with music and memories of God’s faithfulness, will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Capital Assembly of God in Hamilton, NJ.
