Helen (Clark) Pride was born October 8, 1922 in Bumpass, Virginia to the late Ernest Morton Clark and Mary Alice (Kinney) Clark. She departed this life on July 16, 2019. Helen lived in Spring Lake Heights, Belmar, Asbury Park and Eatontown, NJ. She attended and graduated Manasquan High School. She was confirmed at St. Augustine Episcopal Church over 50 years ago, became active and served faithfully on Vestry, Altar Guild, St. Agnes Guild and ECW. Helen was honored by the Diocese of NJ not only as a representative for St. Augustine but was designated as Woman of the Year for St. Augustine. In the year 1947 Helen was united in holy matrimony to Horace W. Pride. From this union was born a daughter, Nancy Jean. Helen was employed at Camp Evans in Wall Township, then later served as tax collector of Asbury Park for 30 years. Upon retirement Helen enjoyed entertaining her friends, cooking, travel, golf, bocce ball, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Other involvements included serving on the Boards of Elections, Housing Authority, Civil Service, was an expert typist, notary public and had a gift with numbers. She was a member of the American Legion ladies Auxiliary Post #266 Neptune. Helen was predeceased by her spouse, Horace W. Pride, five brothers, Emmett, Aubrey, Robert, John, and Douglas Clark and two sisters Lucille Suffern and Amita Bullcok. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Nancy (Dr. Emerson C. Walden, Jr.) of Woodstock, MD, her sister Carrie Scott of Berkeley Township, NJ, a nephew Kevin (Clarice) Miller; nieces Colette Johnson of Belmar, NJ; Daria Bullock (Beth Crespo) of Gainesville, FL, Dr. Constance (David) Snead of the Villages, FL; great and great great nieces and nephews, other relatives; her “adopted” daughter Romila Taylor of Randallstown, MD, a multitude of friends, neighbors and her church family.
