Ms. Lela M. Coleman was born September 13, 1925, in Flora, Mississippi to the late Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Coleman, Sr., and to this blessed union four children were born. Lela departed this life, Thursday, July 18, 2019, peacefully in Jackson, Mississippi. Lela accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. L. M. Robinson at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Flora, Mississippi, where she served as Choir President, Church Treasurer and Teacher of the Missionary Society. She was a member of the Madison, Hinds and adjoining counties of the Christian Insitute. She was very active and devoted to her Christian Journey. She knew that all things were possible for those who believed. Her life was full of happiness and tears and her Faith was strong. She believed if you kept the faith, trust in the Lord and keep the right attitude and be grateful, God would open many doors. Sis. Coleman started her fraternal journey in 1947, with the Order of Eastern Star. She joined the Order under the leadership of Sis. Ora M. Reese, Worthy Grand Matron. She served under four Grand Matron until she took over the reigns as Worthy Grand Matron of Electra Grand Chapter, the State of Mississippi in November 2003. She served as the Associate Grand Matron of Electra Grand Chapter for thirteen years. During her reign as Grand Matron, she had three Grand Patrons by her side that she cherished and took their advice to heart. Bro. Johnny Washington, Bro. Eric Irvin and Bro. Tonnie Cole, Jr. She also served as the Worthy Matron for Ruth Chapter #6 from 1969-2004. She held the position as Supreme Chairman of Trustee for the Supreme Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She is also affiliated with Rahab Court #4, Heroines of Jericho, Lillie Mae Pace Council #1 Lady Knights and Noble Court #3 Daughters of Sphinx. She was given the honor and title of Honorary Supreme Grand Matron in 2019 by Past Supreme Matron Sis. Jacqueline D.C. Spires. She was the Matriarch of her family and of Electra Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Lela had a long and prosperous journey and she enjoyed every minute of it, from her family to her Christian journey to her Fraternal journey. She has traveled all over, with her loving spirit, she never met a stranger. She was a mother to all who came in her pathway. As she lives in our Hears, what greater tribute could there be to her memory than to continue our lives in love, peace, and generosity. She was a woman who truly loved the Lord. She used to always say “O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, and His mercy endures forever.” Visitation Hours: Friday, July 26, 2019, between the hours of 12-6 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, located at 886 N. Sympathies message

  1. I have no iidea who you are but I am her grandson Jeremy. I thank you for writing this so eloquently. I would have placed this inside of her program instead of what was in there. This was truly special to find
