Robert M. Simon, 87, of Asheville, passed away at his residence on July 29, 2019, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice & Celia Simon; two brothers, Arnold & Howard Simon; and one sister, Pearl Lehrman. Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maureen; and his son, Rob (Kimberly) Simon, whom he had a very close relationship with.. He was from a Jewish family that immigrated to the USA to make a life for themselves. Robert was a small business owner that carried on his family business; Simon Bros, that began in Springville, New York in 1904. As a young man, Robert joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. In 1998 he and his family moved to North Carolina and he worked for the Asheville Citizen Times as a salesman in marketing. He enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity after his retirement. No Services will be held at this time. Burial will take place at the Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at a later date. In memory of Robert memorials are suggested to Smoky Mountain Cremations & Funeral Service to assist the family with expenses.
