Richard W. Caldwell, 79, of Van Wert passed away at 11:41 PM on July 13, 2019 at Van Wert Health ER. He was born on August 14, 1939 in, Oak Hill, Ohio, the son of the late Ervin and Beatrice (Carter) Dunn. On October 17, 1958, he married the love of his life, Sandra K. Michael. Richard served in the United States Navy and worked as a press and printer technician. In his younger days, Richard enjoyed camping and hunting. He was an avid fisherman and recently took up bird-watching. Richard was a devoted grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Caldwell of Van Wert; sons: Kevin (Beverly) Caldwell of Van Wert; Jeremy (Jennifer) Caldwell of Dayton; sisters: Terry and Cathy Dunn of Van Wert; Peggy Caldwell of Oak Hill; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Caldwell; siblings: Robert, Larry and Carl Dunn; and Bonnie Gillespie. The memorial service will be 12 PM on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home where the family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10 AM to 12 PM. Rev. Jim Burns will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard`s memory may be sent to Alzheimers Association .
