Obituary On the afternoon of October 24th, 2020, Joyce Anne Smyth passed away at the age of 80. The daughter of Raymond and Anne Hines, born on September 16, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1963, she married John H. Smyth and was married for 35 years. She is survived by her sons, John Daniel Smyth and Raymond Scott Smyth, as well as her daughter in law, Renee Smyth. Joyce’s passions included music and singing, interior decorating and shopping. For many years, she sang as a soprano in the Castle AFB Catholic choir. After the base closed she went on to sing for Sunday masses at St. Anthony’s. She was a member of the Castle Wives’ Club and volunteered in the thrift store. Because her sons participated in school sports and music programs, Joyce spent many years as a Booster for both the Mitchell Thunderbirds and the Atwater Falcons. She enjoyed travelling the country with her husband, John, in their Ford LTD as they were transferred from one USAF base to another. She loved going to Reno to play nickel slots and visiting the beautiful church in Virginia City. A couple of memorable events in her life was when she met Charlton Heston and being at the bank counter of her local bank during a bank robbery. She lived a simple life and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. A private service will be held at the Winton Cemetery.
