Brent Warren Matthews, 65, passed away on December 22, 2020 at McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. Brent was born December 6, 1955, the son of Lloyd D. Matthews and Sherry A. ( Schlehuber) Matthews. He graduated from Concordia High School. He married Regina S. Matthews and they shared 22+ years together. Brent enjoyed spending time in the outdoors fishing and camping with family and friends. He also spent time doing wood working projects. He drove a semi truck for several years and independent construction contractor for 18 years, retiring from the business, but he never gave up his love of working with his hands to build furniture, toys, and many other beautiful pieces of woodworking projects, and was passing on his knowledge to his grandchildren. Survivors include: Regina Matthews, of the home; son, Travis D. ( Stephanie) Matthews Herrington, Ks, Chris ( Julie) Matthews of McPherson, Ks; step-son, Shawn Russell, Waterford, NY; step-daughter, Gina Russell of Florida; brother, Doug Matthews, McPherson, Ks; sisters, Vicki ( Mike) Eustice, Concordia, Ks, Pam ( Greg) Goering, Inman, Ks, Diane ( Troy) Winter, McPherson, Ks; aunt and uncle Norma & Sheldon Snell, McPherson, Ks; 22 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of Brent’s life will be planned for spring or summer. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials go to Angel Arms Home Care of McPherson in honor of Brent, and left in care of Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas 67501. I had unsuccessfully tried to contact Brent on his birthday 2 years ago because he was on my mind. I even left a message on the voice mail of a phone number I found online. He was similarly on my mind tonight so I Googled him again. Though I had lost touch with Brent, he was my best friend throughout junior high and high school. So many memories are flooding through my mind. I can’t even tell you how much this news upset me. My heart goes out to Vickie, Doug, Pam, and Diane. He was a good man and he had a good heart. It has been almost 2 years since his passing, so I hope one of your sees this message and knows that there are still people out there who remember and care. Godspeed.
