Obituary Nellie Margaret Laman, age 93 of Grand Haven, passed away on April 6, 2020 at a local care facility. She was born on August 31, 1926 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Ernest and Mary (Deback) Scheltema. Nellie married her Valentine, Donald F. Laman on February 14, 1959 in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2003. Nellie was a long-time resident of the Grand Haven area and a member of First Reformed Church, where she was very involved in her church circle. Nellie loved to bake and watch old westerns, Nashville shows, and music/comedy shows; she was a big fan of Red Skelton. Nellie had a heart of gold and was friendly and neighborly to everyone she would meet. She will be remembered by all who were blessed to have met her. Nellie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Don (Lisa) Laman of Grand Haven; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her three sisters, Lucille Kuipers, Shirley Kane, and Phyllis Button, all of Grand Haven; her two brothers, John Scheltema of Grand Haven and Phil (Aoy) Scheltema of Thailand; and several extended family members. She was preceded in death by her infant granddaughter; brothers, Ernest and Bill Scheltema; her sister, Marion Keway; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry Kuipers, Bob Kane, Velma Scheltema, Emma Scheltema, and Ruth Johnson. A private family graveside service will take place at Lake Forest Cemetery, with Pastor John Koedyker officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Reformed Church of Grand Haven or the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.
