Obituary Mildred L. Nelson, 94, of Slater died April 28, 2020 at Bethany Life in Story City. Private family graveside services were Friday May 1, 2020 at the Slater City Cemetery. Mildred was born on August 13, 1925 in rural Slater to Lars and Valborg (Helgeland) Holme. She graduated from Slater High School and married Lester Nelson, Jr. on June 9, 1946. He died in 1984. Mildred was a lifetime resident of the Slater area and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing the organ, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing games on her ipad and hosting her friends for coffee. Mildred is survived by her children, Loren (Nancy) Nelson of Jackson, Wyoming, Kevin (JoEllen) Nelson of Eldora and Lori (Ries) Morrissey of Slater; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester and two sisters, Selma “Louise” Davis and Harriet Shirey. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Slater is entrusted with arrangements.
