Jerry Lee Fain of Raytown, age 78, passed away peacefully and in the comfort of his own home on March 5th due to complications from Alzheimer’s. An Air Force veteran stationed in Texas, Arizona, Japan and Korea, he saw the world beyond his hometown of Independence, Missouri. Upon retiring in 1996 as a steel worker after 32 years, he pursued his passions and interests. He was an avid golfer who once hit a hole-in-one and kept a newspaper clipping of that feat in his wallet, just in case you didn’t believe him. He was also an avid tennis player who loved competing in the annual Leavenworth Tennis Tournament. He enjoyed hunting grouse in the Dakotas, prairie chicken in Nebraska, pheasant and quail in Kansas and Missouri and was an ardent duck hunter. He loved his Brittany bird dogs. He was a member of a trap shooting team for decades and he enjoyed fishing for bass, crappie and walleye primarily at Smithville Lake. A lifelong fan of MIZZOU basketball and football, he also got to see both the Royals and the Chiefs bring championships back to KC!! He was a good man who lived a good life and will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by his father J.C. (1996) and his mother Doris (Thurmon) (1999) of Fairmount and by his wife of 40 years Nancy (McAdams) from Sugar Creek, who passed away in 2006. He is also preceded in death by his brother Robin of Independence (2004), his sister Carolyn (Gossett) of KCKS (2010), his sister Karsa (Gonzalez) of Houston, TX (2010), and by his brother Jim of Oak Grove (2014). He is survived by his brother Bill of Grain Valley, numerous nieces and nephews, and by his son Joe of Raytown.
