David received his formal education at Garden Homes Lutheran School, MSOE, and MATC where he earned a degree in IT computer sciences. While at MATC, David was president of the Student Council and member of the Chess Club. He owned Sun Tribe Entertainment and Rage Cage Productions. For several years, David hosted the Riverwest Radio Show that provided a venue for many local artists to illustrate and cultivate their talents. Due to the success of Riverwest Radio, David was able to launch the careers of several entertainers. Through Riverwest Radio, David, a.k.a. Dee Jay Blackout, linked with several local deejays and held various parties throughout the metropolitan area. He was a re-occurring performer at the Annual Winter Warmer Festival, and is a legend on the East Side, especially Brady Street. David was born September 7, 1981, to Genita Michelle James. His memory will be cherished by his mother Michelle, his Aunt Pat, Aunt Yvette, and Uncle Chuck who were instrumental in David’s upbringing and gave him his light. David was the loving father of his daughter, Honor Mitchell. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Adele Covington, as well as other aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends. David loved to learn – studying leadership philosophy. He enjoyed recording his music podcast, tutoring young people in chess, watching and participating in sports, and spending time with friends and family.
