Obituary A Private Homegoing Catholic Service Celebration for Mrs. Birdie Eileen Williams Underwood of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 will be held Saturday, April 18th, 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1225 N. Nebraska Ave., Father Theobald Weria, officiating. The entombment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Birdie Williams Underwood passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 25, 2020. She was born in Tampa, Florida on December 9, 1948. She was the fourth child of Lillian Bryant Williams Brown and the late Howard Williams. Birdie was a graduate of the Middleton High School, class of 1966. She was a proud graduate of the great Bethune-Cookman University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She also received a Master of Education Degree from the University of Tampa. Birdie retired as an educator from the School District of Hillsborough County after serving 40 years of teaching at J. R. Brooker Elementary School in Brandon, Florida. Because she loved children and made a difference in their lives, she returned to the field of education as a part-time, reading tutor until her demise. Birdie was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She was an active member of Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she received several awards and accolades, most notably, Soror of the Year. She served on the Hospitality Committee, CAP Committee, and Arts and Culture for many years. When she was not participating in community service projects for her Sorority, you found her actively supporting Wildcat activities as a member of the Hillsborough Alumni Chapter of Bethune-Cookman University. Birdie loved life and will truly be missed by many. She is survived by her mother, Lillian Bryant Williams Brown; sister, Betoria Williams Watson; niece, Raquel Lillian Watson Hunter; great-niece, Carii Amaya Hunter; great-nephew, Carter Amari Hunter and aunt, Leila Bryant Aldridge. There will be a limited visitation held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, April 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The visitation will be live streamed you may join the family at: www.aikensfuneralhome.net.
