Obituary A Homegoing Catholic Service for Mrs. Barbara J. Ephrom Gay of Tampa, Florida, who passed away on, Tuesday, April 7, 2020 will be held on Tuesday, April 14th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 N. Nebraska Ave., Father Theobald Weria, officiating. The interment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Catholic Gardens. Barbara J. Ephrom Gay was born August 7, 1937 in Tampa, Florida to the late Robert and Willie Mae (Verritt) Ephrom. She attended St Peter Claver Catholic School, Middleton High School, and Gibbs Jr. College. She was a lifelong faithful and active parishioner of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, where she served in many capacities throughout the years. She loved the traditions and rituals of her church which she learned at an early age and embraced with strong faith throughout her life. She was a former teacher at St. Peter Claver School for many years. She also worked at Tampa General Hospital Blood Bank. She worked 30 years with BayCare Health Systems in various supervisory and management positions that included 18 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital and 12 years at Healthpoint Medical Management Services; she retired in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Willie Mae (Verritt) Ephrom, and her husband, Hardrick E. Gay. She leaves treasured memories with: her devoted daughter, Desiree Ephrom Green (Jarvis), Stone Mountain, GA; grandsons, Ryan Green and Johnathan Green, Stone Mountain, GA; granddaughter, Kawanna Shaffiers (Cedric), Atlanta, GA; great granddaughter, Channing Shaffiers, Atlanta, GA; sisters, Yvonne Aikens (Thomas), Jacquelyn DeVeaux (Errol), Radcliff, KY; brother, Robert Ulysses Robins (Carolyn), Fayetteville, GA; aunt, Martha Thompson; nephews, Daryl Aikens (Maxine), Warner Robins, GA, Teryl Aikens (Rosalinde), Kevin DeVeaux (Shikina), Tucker, GA; nieces, LaCheryl Aikens, Nicole Aikens (Hugh Gross), Candace DeVeaux, Atlanta, GA, Carmelatta Clemons and Ebony Clemons; great-nephews, Brandon Aikens (Lisa), Norcross, GA; Austin and Aaron Aikens, Jorden and Jaren Aikens-Guzman; great-niece, Brandie Wynn (Terrence), McDonough, GA; many cousins including, Yvonne Burns (Shawn White), Rugenia Meeks and family, Willie Gray Dixon, Jr (Maryse), Florida Mae Young and family, Sanford, FL, Rene Williams and Kim Patrick (Keith) and family, all of West Palm Beach, FL., Phyllis Lawrence (Jesse) and family, Sharon Thompson and family, Reggie Thompson; extended family, Dorothy Hayes and family, Eddie Hills, Jr. (Mary), the Verritt, Roberts, Dixon, Clinton, Mitchell and Gathers families; devoted friends, Luella Carrington and Juanita Davis McQueen; numerous godchildren, other friends and church family who will miss her. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Monday, April 13th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The visitation and funeral service will be live streamed at: www.aikensfuneralhome.net.
