W. Lewis Woodson was born on September 8th 1931 in Tulsa Oklahoma to parents, Walter and Letha Woodson. Lewis attended school in Tulsa graduating from Central High School with the “Nifty Class of Fifty”. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oklahoma Baptist University and also received a major in Accounting from the University of Tulsa. Later he went to the University of Nebraska where he earned a Master’s degree in College Business Administration. Lewis was employed with Tulsa First National Bank and Amarada Petroleum before being asked to join the administration of Bacone College in 1961. In 1978, he was asked to become the business administrator at First Baptist Church in Tulsa. While there, he was elected the President of the National Association of Church Administrators. After seven years at First Baptist Church he was asked to return to Bacone College as the Vice President of Finance where he remained until he retired in 1994. Lewis was dedicated to Christ and his church. Lewis was active in the First Baptist Church in Muskogee serving in various positions over the years including as Sunday School director, teacher, deacon (twice as chairman), volunteered at the food bank and served on numerous committees. After his wife Edie retired, they worked together part-time visiting retired American Baptist ministers and missionaries in a five state region. Lewis was an active member of the Gideons. Lewis loved to travel; over their sixty-three year marriage, he and Edie visited all fifty states and several foreign countries. During his retirement, Lewis became an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed making various pieces of furniture and decorations for his family. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Letha and Walter Woodson; brothers, Myron, Daryl, and Paul Woodson; sister-in-law, Virginia Woodson; son-in-law, Terry Stewart; brothers-in-law, Edward and Richard Trott. He leaves behind his wife, Edie; his daughters, Gail Stewart, Linda Woodson, and Lori Payne; son-in-law, Tom Payne; daughter-in-law, Megan Davis; nephews, Tim Woodson and his wife, Carolee, Ron Woodson, Jim Trott and his wife, Jill; sister-in-law, Freda Trott and her children, Debbie, John, Mary and Paul. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey Pittman and her husband Aaron, Heather Shreve and husband Josef, Joshua Payne, Jillian Stewart and Joshua Davis; his great-grandchildren, Madison Pittman, Evelina and Macy Shreve; along with other family members and many friends. Funeral services celebrating Lewis’ life will be 10AM at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday the 6th of July, 2019 with Pastor Johnny Derouen officiating.
