Obituary for Susan O. Stewart NEW LIMERICK – Susan O. Stewart, 70, went to be with the Lord on Sunday July 21, 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts. She was born on November 16, 1948 in Houlton, Maine the daughter of Melvin Hoyt and Respa Mary (Byron) Stewart. She lived in North Easton, Massachusetts throughout her childhood and visited Linneus, Maine in summers. Susan’s 45 year teaching career began the Fall of 1970 when an opening for a first grade class became available at the Parkview School in North Easton. Not expecting to teach the first grade class, she came to the love the age group and mentored many students in the following years. Later, she taught at Southern Aroostook Community School of Dyer Brook, Maine, the County Road Baptist School of New Limerick, Maine, the Twin City Christian School of Leominster, Massachusetts and finally retired from the Greater Houlton Christian Academy in Houlton. Susan’s former preschool students of the County Road Baptist School gave her the honor of requesting her as commencement speaker for the Senior Class of the GHCA in Houlton. In her retirement, she spent her days at Drew’s Lake in New Limerick at the home her parents had built. She enjoyed reading, making greeting cards and playing the piano for services at the Shiretown Baptist Church. Susan had many church friends and former students who took time from their own lives to make hers so special. She was well known for timely wit and one-on-one kindnesses. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William L. Stewart and his wife Carol. She leaves a nephew, William Hal Stewart of North Easton, Massachusetts, a niece Darlene M. McNeel and her husband Dan of Londonderry, New Hampshire. In addition a grand-niece, Allison M. McNeel of Londonderry, a grand-nephew, Ryan S. McNeel of Hopkinton, New Hampshire and several cousins of whom completed her close circle of family. Funeral Services will be held at the Shiretown Baptist Church starting with a calling hour on Thursday August 1 at 10AM followed by a memorial service at 11AM with Pastor Josh Brewer and Pastor Jamie Gardner officiating. Burial will be at the Linneus Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Shiretown Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be to the Shiretown Baptist Church or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston.
