Sister Jo Ann (Jo Ann) Cuscurida died at 10:47 a.m. on July 13, 2019 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana. Sister Jo Ann was born on December 15, 1932 in Waco, Texas and was one of two children of Michael and Millie Estelle (Zahirniah) Cuscurida. Sister graduated from Waco Senior High School in 1950, received her B.S.N. in Nursing from St Louis University in Missouri in 1956 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. After initial formation, Sister Jo Ann was sent to St. Mary Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to serve as Nurse Supervisor and then to Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana to serve in the same capacity. Sister then received an M.S. degree in Nursing Service Administration from De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois in 1965 after which she became Director of Nursing Service at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. In 1967 Sister served as a Nurse at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans until 1970 when she was sent to Providence Hospital and Medical Center in Southfield, Michigan to serve as Director of Nursing Service. In 1981, Sister was appointed Vice President of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago until 1987. During the following years, Sister Jo Ann served as Full Time Board Chair for St. Thomas Health Center West in Nashville, Tennessee, St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, St. Mary Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan until 2009 when she came to Seton Residence in Evansville to serve in the Ministry of Prayer. A Wake Service will be held in the Seton Residence Chapel on Thursday, July 18, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Cuscurida, and she is survived by family friend, Madeline Koster, cousins in Greece, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
