Mrs. Sandra Saunders, age 71, left her earthly home and stepped into the arms of Jesus. She now has a new body free of pain and disease passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at home. She was born April 22, 1948 in Elizabeth City County, Virginia to James and Norma (LaHuis) Shumake. On April 1, 1968 she married Bruce Saunders in Kansas City, Missouri. Sandra attended Robinson Baptist Church and made beautiful paper flowers as a ministry to share God’s Word. Her greatest love was her family and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all their activities. She is survived by her husband Bruce; five children: Terry (Kristine) Saunders of Holland, Faith (Russell) Avery of West Olive, Joy (Tony) Berens of Minnesota, Lynda (Christopher) Denison of Grand Haven and Charla (Chai) Grossman of Florida; thirty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Brent) Eling; brother, James Shumake; in-laws, Ralph Verburg, Steve (Jackie) Saunders, and Paula Gorenflo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Norma; special grandparents Clarence and Henrietta LaHuis; sisters, Sharon Verburg and Marcia Pertilla; nephew, Tony Rozeveld; niece, Sarah Lynn Verburg. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 5, 2019 at Robinson Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 3-5 PM Sunday, August 4, 2019 at The VanZantwick Chapel, Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417 and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery.
