Monday July 15th 2019
On July 15, 2019 our beloved and loving husband and father, Sambar Datta at age 79, passed away surrounded in his final moments and days by his family and listening to the music that brought so much peace to him all his life. Over the past two years he fought and persevered through many medical challenges stemming from complications due to his esophageal cancer surgery. He always kept fighting in hopes of a better outcome, so he could spend more time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years of marriage, Kamala Datta, his three children, Kaushik (Noelle) Datta, Victoria Datta and Sonia (Robert) Varallo, his four loving grandchildren, Asha & Sachin Datta, Kamira and Joelle Varallo, and many other nephews and nieces who love and remember him fondly. Sambar Datta was born on December 17, 1939 to his parents, Khagendra Nath and Sushoma Datta in Kolkata, India, one of ten children. He loved his parents and his siblings very much. Sambar Datta loved his profession as an electrical & controls engineer. He worked at Stone & Webster (Shaw Group) the majority of his professional life, from where he retired after 46 years. He loved the design aspect of building power plants, seeing projects through to execution, and all the people interactions along the way. He was proud of doing his job well and loved the day they would turn the finished product over to the client. His other personal passion was music whether it be listening to, performing or cultivating it in the community. Sambar loved many different genres of music- jazz, blues, classical and rock but his one true love was Indian Classical Music. He had an impeccable ear for Indian Classical music, meeting some of the greats during his lifetime. Most importantly, Sambar Datta, was a kind and gentle soul. He spent a lifetime helping friends, family or strangers whenever and however he could. He believed in education as the strong foundation for a successful life. He was uncannily empathetic, always striving to understand the struggles of others to better himself. He passed these values and others on through his family. Family, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., Waltham, MA, on Saturday July 20, 2019 from 10:00am-12:00pm, followed by a religious service at the crematorium for immediate family.
