Russell Norris Ford January 15, 1922 – July 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Mr. Russell Norris Ford, son of the late Susie McClammy Ford and Elijah Ford was born in Pender County, North Carolina. God in his infinite wisdom called him to rest on July 6, 2019. He spent his early childhood in Rocky Point where he received his formal education and attended Mt. Moriah A.M.E. Church. “Ford” was called to serve his country in the Unites States Army in 1942. During his service he was Squad Leader in Normandy: Northern France: Ardennes: Rhineland and Central Europe. He received numerous decorations and citations; American Theater Medal: EAMET Medal with five Bronze Service Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. “Ford” received an Honorable Discharge in 1945. After leaving the military he was united in marriage to the late Malesia Malloy and to that union they were blessed with three children. After their divorce “Ford” moved to New York City and worked for many years as a professional meat butcher. He subsequently met and married Geneva Capel Ford, thereby adding three children to the family afterwards moved to Burlington, NC in 1972. Surviving to honor his memory are his daughters: Gwendolyn Ford (Sharif), Seattle Washington; Elaine (Sylvester) Small, Port St. Lucia, Florida; Cherry (Jake) Allen, Greensboro, NC and three step children, Andrea, Wayne and Theresa. Sister-in-law, Jereline (Cleveland) Simpson, Rocky Point, NC; niece, Thelma Elizabeth Blackmon of Charlotte, NC. Eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nephews, cousins and friends. Special acknowledgement and thanks to Dr. Brian Talbot and staff of the Heroes-Way Hospice , at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC and Meals on Wheels.
