Russell’s Obituary Russell Earl Rounds Sr., 88, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Hollis Ann (Blackburn) Rounds who passed away on August 15, 2002, and to whom he was married on February 9, 1979. Born in Attleboro 1930, he attended The Huntington School in Boston and Wentworth Institute, from where he received his Associate Degree in Electrical Science. Russell enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and proudly and honorably served our country. The Rounds family has proudly served their country in every calling since the King Philip War. He was then employed by Mass Electric for forty years, most recently as the Vice-President of Field Operations. Russell was descended from eight Mayflower passengers and was a lifetime member of the Mayflower Society. Moreover, he was a direct descendent of William Carpenter, the founder of Rehoboth, MA, where the family resided for ten generations until Mr. Rounds’ great-grandfather, Arthur Rounds, moved to Attleboro. He is descended from the two grandfathers of Robert Treat Paine, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a longtime member of the VFW and American Legion of Attleboro, with whom he enjoyed participating in countless parades; the Pilgrim Lodge A.F. & A.M., where he was a Master Mason for over sixty-seven years; the Aleppo Shriners; and was a past Chairman of the Attleboro Housing Authority. He leaves two children, Russell “Rusty” Rounds Jr., of Englewood, FL, and Pamela Scully of Fairhaven, MA. He leaves three grandchildren: Lisa Cohen of Scituate, RI; Eric Proulx of Portland, OR; and Tara Newell of Fullerton, CA; as well as seven great-grandchildren. He leaves five nieces and nephews: Honorable Emory Rounds III, who reports directly to the U.S. President and was Senior Council in the Bush White House; Michael; Theresa; Arthur; Cynthia; and Kenneth. Russell was predeceased by his brother Emory Rounds Jr., and leaves his sister-in-law, Alice Rounds, of North Attleboro, MA. He held a special place in his heart for his heart for his faithful companion, “Benji”, a Bedlington terrier. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend a Masonic Ritual Graveside Service for Russell on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, 211 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA.
