Rose Andrea (Parhm) Houston received her wings on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Harvey, Illinois to the union of Dorothea King and Earl B. Parhm on September 26, 1961. Rose graduated Southside High School in 1979, and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Indiana University at the Fort Wayne campus. She accepted Christ into her life and was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Rose worked as a substance abuse counselor for Caring About People (CAP), Inc. and Park Center Inc. She also served as a chairperson for the Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous recovery groups. Rose loved her family and being around people. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, backgammon and reading books. Rose is survived by her father, Earl B. (Lona) Parhm of Maplesville, AL; daughters, La’Vone Parhm of North Chesterfield, VA, Andrea Houston of Fort Wayne and LaQuaylin Parhm of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Earl “Benny”(Tonja) Parhm of Fort Wayne, Alex Parhm “AJ” of Los Angeles, CA, Donald Ray (Frances) Parhm of Forrest, MS and Ralph Cole of Fort Wayne; sisters, Mary Ware of Forrest, MS, Berneda (Henry) Smith of Fort Wayne, Karen (Jeffery) Whitt of Fort Wayne, Lillian Parhm of Mobile, AL, La’Sherra Bias of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Marquis Parhm, Martez Parhm, Ahmir Morgan, Gary Parhm, Promise Parhm, Jeniya Houston, John Houston, Jayden Houston; a very special grandson, Jotorien Houston; great-nephew, Javien Lamb; great-grandchildren, Sa’Vayah and Sincere Parhm; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Rose was preceded in death by her son, John L. Houston Jr.; mother and stepfather, Dorothea and James Avery; sister, Maggie R. Cole; stepmother, Minnie Lee Parhm and nephew Da’Vonte Cole. The family is grateful for the condolences but declines donations. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to send roses to a special person in your life who is living.
