August 1 1937 July 23 2019
Rita C. Reidy of Indianapolis passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, following a five-month illness. Rita was born on August 1, 1937 in Muncie, Indiana to Dohrman and Maxine Brotherton, the second of three daughters who were residents of Dunkirk, Indiana. Rita as a youngster was a movie enthusiast, joining her sister to see Movie Tone news clips and the latest in cinema at the downtown theater. Rita was a 1955 graduate of Dunkirk High School, where she was a cheerleader for the Speedcats in her junior and senior year. Rita worked out of high school at the former Indiana Glass Company and attended classes at Ball State University. Rita married Richard K. “Dick” Reidy on June 20, 1959 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hartford City, Indiana. The couple would remain members of St. John’s until Dick’s passing in November 1990. Together they raised three children: Richard Kevin, Karen Sue and Kristine Ann. While living in Hartford City, Rita was a stay at home mom, transporting her children to school events, appointments and tending to make their house a home. Upon the children graduating from high school, Rita worked locally in Hartford City at the former J.C. Penney and Hallmark card stores. Rita’s personal empathy and compassion were her strengths and a source of pride and support for her family. She was her husband’s primary care giver for his illness of six years, as well as assisting with the care for her mother Maxine. She was a source for instilling in her children and grandchildren the values of acknowledging family birthdays and anniversaries, through her numerous cards and notes of cheer and support for both family and friends. In 1992, Rita relocated to Muncie, Indiana and worked as an office records assistant for two physician practices in the Muncie area through 2008. She then retired and enjoyed sharing her time and energy travelling with her children on family vacations, attending grandchildren’s activities, events and milestones, as well as visiting area friends. In 2016, Rita sold her home in Muncie and relocated to Indianapolis to be nearer to her daughters. Rita Reidy is survived by her son, Kevin (Debbie), Ashland, Ohio; two daughters, Karen (Bill) Sutherlin, Indianapolis, IN and Kristine (Don) Cobb, Carmel, IN. Additionally, five grandchildren survive, including Brooke Reidy, Cincinnati, OH; Christopher Deloughery and Patrick Deloughery, both of Indianapolis, IN and Meredith Cobb and Adam Cobb, both of Carmel, IN. Rita is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Myers, Bluffton, Indiana and Susan (Rex) Beal, Albany, IN. A celebration of life service for Rita C. Reidy will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m., at Gardenview Funeral Home in Muncie, In. There will be a calling hour at 1:00 p.m., until time of service. The family extends its appreciation to the staff of Sunrise on Old Meridian as well as Paradigm Hospice for the compassion, comfort and care extended to Rita during her illness.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Rita C Reidy of Indianapolis Indiana August 1 1937 July 23 2019.
