Rex’s Obituary Rex Smith of Delphos KS passed away peacefully July 9, 2019 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Rex was born July 29, 1932 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Rex is survived by his wife Janet of Delphos, KS; a son Allen Smith of Kansas City, MO; a daughter Shari Nelson of Jamestown, KS; 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Rex married Janet Bartles on August 9, 1955, they spent 62 happy years together. After graduating from high school Rex joined the Army and served for 22 years. During his elistment he spent time in Korea, Turkey, Germany, and Vietnam. After Retiring from the Army, Rex went on to work for the Civil service, including time at the Eisenhower Center in Abilene as well as at the Federal penitentiary at Leavenworth. Rex loved the outdoors and nature and after retiring from the Civil service he spent a lot of time traveling the United States. He made multiple canoe trips down the Mississippi river, starting in central Kansas or Nebraska and ending up at the Gulf of Mexico. He also made backpacking trips to the Northeastern and Northwestern US. Later in life Rex enjoyed driving the back roads around Delphos with his wife Janet checking out the scenery and the wildlife. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salina Animal Shelter. Read More
