R. Neal Ball June 15, 1924 ~ July 27, 2019 R. Neal Ball passed away on July 27, 2019 at his home from complications from a fall. He was born on June 15, 1924 in Coalville, UT, to Thomas Hershel and Elsie Winters Ball. The day he was born his father brought home his first dog “Perk”. A few days later he bought a full grown horse for his son. He grew up in Coalville and enjoyed playing trombone in the High School Band from the time he was 12. He was president of his High School Senior Class of 1941-1942. After high school he moved to Ogden and “enlisted” into Military civilian service. He became the timekeeper and then was moved to supervise the accounting. He met his sweetheart Faye Longhurst on August 8, 1946. He determined he wanted to be an accountant and with his wife’s support he went for over 8 years to night school. He started working in accounting at the Naval Supply Depot and when that was closing he applied at Hill Air Force Base and worked there until his retirement. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 17, 1950. Their daughter Ruth Raelene was born in April 1951 and then Cheryl Lynn was born three years later. Neal was active in many callings The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including being a Bishop in two different wards. He served with his eternal companion as temple ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple from 1986 until it closed for remodeling. He served on the Riverdale Planning Commission from April 14, 1982 to December 31, 2001. He loved his golf and played up into his 90s. Neal is survived by his wife, Faye; daughter, Cheryl (Bruce) Burt; a son-in-law, Norman Hill; 8 grandchildren, Heather (Reed) Deshler, Ryan (Alayna) Hill, Heidi (Matthew) Thornton, Kristen (Michael) Duke, Holly (Jackson) Lund, Russell (Kim) Hill, Michelle (Jacob) Swensen, and Kirk (Rachel) Hill; and 29 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dona Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Ruth Raelene Hill; two grandchildren, Brett Walter Burt and Ruth Rebecca Hill; and three sisters, Mildred Saxton, June Moore, and Faye Rees. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Riverdale 5th Ward, 4000 Parker Drive. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
