Pgagrong (Chertong) Spence, a resident of Del City, passed away July 18, 2019 in Oklahoma City. She was born January 7, 1944 in Samut Prakan, Thailand to Oon and Booma Chertong. “Panee”, as she was known to most people, was raised in Thailand, and taught English to students when she graduated high school. She met Thomas Spence and they married on November 13, 1973 in Udorn, Thailand. They moved to the United States and spent 20 years together, until Tom’s passing in 1993. Panee was known to be a kind and generous woman, who loved and cherished her family. She loved spending time with her grandkids and cooking for her family and friends. Food was her outlet, she always offered food every time anyone visited, and you never left her home on an empty stomach. Her specialty was Thai Spring Rolls, and they were a favorite among family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time in the garden planting flowers, cleaning out flower beds and trimming rose bushes. She had an adoration for animals, especially cats and dogs. She spent many years feeding stray cats daily, treating them as her own. Panee had a big heart, and always put others before herself. One of her favorite things to do was to play bingo with her significant other, Nam Ngu. They enjoyed playing every day with their friends. They also enjoyed going out to eat. Some of her favorite restaurants included Thai House, Golden Palace and Golden Corral. Panee and Nam also spent a lot of time at the Asian District, eating and celebrating the Asian Festival and Chinese New Year. Panee is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Spence; parents, Oon and Booma Chertong; and her siblings. She leaves behind her daughter and husband, Lalita and Timothy Mattingly and their children, Lauren Mattingly and Connor Mattingly; son, Lee Chertong; four stepchildren and their families, Ellen Pohlmann, John Spence, Nancy Neale, Andrea Stadler; and her significant other, Nam Ngu, as well as many nieces and nephews in Thailand; and numerous friends and loved ones. A service to celebrate the life of Panee will be held at a later date. “Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it.” – Buddha To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Pgagrong “Panee” Spence please visit our Sympathy Store.
