Nancy E. Gaines, 75, of Delaware, and most recently with her daughter’s family in Ashley, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Ohio Health Marion General Hospital. Nancy was born on July 12, 1944 in Delaware, and was the youngest of 6 children to the late Homer Clinton Matlack and Louise (Griffith) Matlack. Nancy grew up in Delaware and was a 1963 graduate of Scioto Valley High School, which was the last graduating class before changing to the Buckeye Valley District. Her dedicated work ethic produced a long career as a bookkeeper giving 23 years to the E.D. Stone Insurance Agency and more than 12 years to the former Carriage Towne Chrysler Dealership. Nancy was most proud that she lived out the work ethic she was taught, in her career she never took a sick day. The Lord was a priority for the Matlack family. Nancy was a long-time member of the Scioto Valley Christian Union Church and in recent years attended Delaware Grace Brethren Church. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and all things Native American. But most of all she loved her children and grandchildren who were her world. She also had two granddogs named Frank and Artyom which brought a special joy to her days. Surviving are her daughter, Robin (Nathan) Frey of Ashley and son, Robert Gaines II of Delaware; grandchildren, Hunter (Sabina) Frey, Miranda Gaines, Lyndsey Gaines and Charles Gaines; sister, Mildred Trout; brother, Charles (Helen) Matlack; sister-in-law, Beverly Matlack; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents that have preceded her in death were brothers, Karroll and Kenneth Matlack; and a sister, Helen Weddell. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 for one hour, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m., at the Scioto Valley Christian Union Church, 5447 Riverside Drive, Delaware, OH 43015, with her nephew, Clinton Matlack, officiating. Burial to follow in Oller Cemetery, Concord Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Delaware Grace Brethren Church or to Scioto Valley Christian Union Church.
