Morris “Morrie” E. Trout, 96, of Jefferson City, formerly of Newton, Iowa, passed away at home on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Heisinger Bluffs, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newton, Iowa on July 12, 1922, a son of the late Cecil and Jennie (McCausland) Trout. Morris was a 1939 graduate of Newton High School, and later he graduated from the University of Iowa. He was a veteran and served as a pilot in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945. He married Eleanor Hill on June 18, 1947, and later that year began working for Maytag. In 1983 he was transferred to Jefferson City, MO. He retired as Maytag plant manager after 40 years with the company. Morrie was active in the community and served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Memorial Community Hospital, Capital Profits, Jefferson City Community Association, Metro Business College, and the Council for Drug Free Youth. He received the Chamber of Commerce Civic Award in 1989. He also served on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Missouri (State) Department of Corrections for 12 years. Morrie was an avid fisherman in Missouri, Minnesota and Canada. He also enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He loved the Healthplex at the Capital Region Medical Center where he was a lifetime member of the Board of Governors. Morrie loved and supported sports at all levels from high school through college and professional teams. Morrie was a birthright Quaker, and also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City which he served as Elder and Deacon. He taught the fifth grade Sunday School class while in Newton for more than 20 years. Morrie especially loved his family, and enjoyed sharing reunions, fishing, and outdoor activities with the family members. He is survived by Eleanor, his wife for 72 years, and three children. They are Dixie Trout of Amana and her husband Dennis Gormley, Perry (Sally) of Leawood, KS, and David (former wife Sandra) of Jefferson City, MO. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Morrie is also survived by three brothers. They are Les (La Vola) and Dale (Bernice) of Newton, and Jerry (Beth) of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson City from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Services will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City with pastors Rudy Beard and Barry Williams officiating. Visitation, graveside rites and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Center Friends Church near Newton, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the United Way in Jefferson City, or the Center Friends Cemetery Fund in Newton.
