Michele D. Kessler, age 63, left this life on Monday, July 22, 2019, in the presence of her loving family. She had written on the cover of her notebook a quote from Sartre’s No Exit: “One always dies too soon or too late. And yet one’s whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are your life and nothing else.” Michele was born on Sunday, May 27, 1956 in Nanticoke, a daughter of the late Elmer “Jim” and Mildred (Cumberland) Huntington. Michele graduated from Northwest Area High School in 1974, where she met the love of her life, Dave Kessler. Following high school, she served in the U.S. Army where she began her training in the medical field. Michele expanded her education by attending Bloomsburg University, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. On September 23, 1981, Michele married her loving husband, David M. Kessler Sr. and together they made their home in Bloomsburg, where they would raise three beautiful children. Her interests were varied, but nothing mattered more to her than her family, friends, and her career as a registered nurse. She was an active PTA member during her children’s school years, helping to bring programs that enriched the lives of students in health sciences and art. She was active as a leader in both Boy and Girl Scouts, including serving two four year terms on the Penn’s Woods Girl Scout Council. A lover of theatre, she worked tirelessly to organize successful fundraising events for the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and served for many years on the Vestry. Michele found great satisfaction working in home health services. She worked for 10 years at Columbia Montour Home Health Services, both as a field nurse and a manager. She continued to advance her career, and during her last years of employment, she worked as an Area Director for Gentiva Home Health and as a Regional Director for LHC Group and Accent Care Home Health. In addition to her parents, Michele was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael J. Huntington. Survivors include her beloved husband of 37 years, David M. Kessler, Sr., three children; David M. Kessler, Jr. of Austin, TX, Lauren M. Kessler of Los Angeles, CA, and Chloe M. Kessler of Bloomsburg. Also surviving are two sisters, Robin Buckeye of Berwick, and Susan Fooskas of Hellertown, PA, four nieces; Amber Lynch, Daryl Wuckitsch, Jessica Krah, Kelly Morgan and a beautiful great nephew and Godchild Gus Wuckitsch. Michele showed amazing determination, strength, dignity and grace throughout her long battle with cancer and was an inspiration to family, friends, and the health care professionals who helped during this time. She was a remarkable woman and a bright and beautiful beacon of light in this world. She will be deeply missed by the many people who loved her. A private celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of her family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Kessler family.
