Michael Eric Bales, 49 years young of Martinsville, passed from this life after years of battling kidney disease at 9:45 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. Mike had spent the past week in the hospital surrounded by his loved ones and fighting for his life. He was the son of William Eugene “Bill” Bales and the late Sharon Diane (Fraker) Bales, born on January 4, 1970 in Martinsville, Indiana. Mike was born and raised in Martinsville, more specifically Baker Township. He graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1988 and was a longtime member of the Zion’s Hill Baptist Church in Martinsville. Though his health prevented him from doing many of the things he loved, Mike never quit pushing forward, being a jokester or baling hay. He absolutely loved to bale hay, watch NASCAR, be outdoors, and socialize. In years past, he also enjoyed logging and hunting. Mike had been an employee of YRC Trucking Company in Indianapolis for approximately twenty years, working in various capacities over the years. He was also a proud member of the Teamster’s Union Local #135. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends including his wife, Nicole M. (Miles) Bales of Martinsville; daughter, Anna Bales and son, Alec Bales both of Martinsville; father, Bill Bales of Martinsville; sister, Melanie (husband, Dean) Hacker of Martinsville; brother, Steven (wife, Jennifer) Bales of Paragon and step-daughters, Rylee and Sydnee Paris of Martinsville. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Bales in 2017 and his oldest son, Austin Bales in 2001. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 11th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Steve Brown will conduct a service celebrating Mike’s life on Friday, July 12th beginning at 11:00 AM at Neal & Summers and he will be laid to rest following the service beside his son in New South Park, Martinsville.
