Obituary for Mary Lucille “Mary Lou” Sego (Schumer) Mary Lucille Sego of Sullivan, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, March 16, 1928 at Perryville, Missouri to the union of Edward Frank and Mary Clara (Nee: Schlatman) Schumer. She went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Meramec Nursing Center, Sullivan at the age of 91 years. Mary Lou or Lucille as she was known by many, started her working career at the young age of 15. She started her apprenticeship working for her sister Loretta at a salon in St. Louis. Mary Lou went on to work for many different salons before moving to Cuba. After moving to Cuba, she built on home on Iris and Jim’s property. She turned her basement into her salon “Night Owl”. Mary Lou retired after nearly seventy years of cutting hair. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, reading, doing crafts and ceramics. She was always working on a project that required her to use her hands and brain. Mary Lou had nearly a thousand books in her collection. After she read a book, she would then give it a one through five stars. Mary Lou’s family had a book club. Mary Lou was a devout member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Other than church, she never left home, because all her friends came to visit her. Mary Lou was a gracious host and an excellent listener. What she truly loved most in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, stepmother, step grandmother, sister-in-law and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents Edward Frank and Mary Clara Schumer, husband Robert L. “Bob” Sego, three children, Iris Shane, Bradley Taylor and Elaine ton; seven siblings, Charles and wife Pat Schumer, Dorothy Farishon, Elbert Schumer, Rosalia Renaud, Loretta Finn, Cletus Schumer and Leroy Schumer; step son, Peter Sego; and other family and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving daughter, Gail and husband Bob Engemann of Washington, Missouri; son-in-law, Jim Shane of Cuba; step daughter, Christina Sego of Sullivan; seven grandchildren, Jill and husband Martin Rector of Chesterfield, Missouri, Thomas and wife Gabi DeBourge of Germany, Beth and husband Todd Vaughn of Charlette, North Carolina, Dean and wife Audra DeBourge of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amber Taylor of Portland, Oregon, Bradley Taylor of Cuba and Adam Taylor of Cuba; step grandsons, Jordan Sego and Zak Sego; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Pete and wife Marie Sego of Cuba, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 415 W School Street, Cuba. Celebration of mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Dan as celebrant. Interment and prayers will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba.
