Ms. Marie Stembridge March 30, 1927 – July 13, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Service Thursday 11:00 am Simpson Street Church of Christ Marie Rhodes Stembridge was born March 30, 1927, in Sparta, Georgia to the late Essie Bee and Charlie Rhodes Sr. She was one of twelve children, seven preceded her in death: Gladys Moore, Lillie Ingram, Mattie Hendricks, Charlie Rhodes, Jr., Obilee Rhodes, William Henry, and Carl Rhodes, Sr. Marie was educated in the Hancock County School System. Marie married the late Joseph Stembridge and had two daughters, Ruby and Betty. The family moved to Greensboro, GA and later to Atlanta, GA. She became a member of the Simpson Street Church of Christ. She loved the congregational singing and cherished praising the Lord. Serving on several committees, Marie always enjoyed helping others. She worked with the Food Committee and prepared dinners for many years until her health prevented her services. Marie retired from Grady Memorial Hospital. For over 30 years, she cared for newborn babies and their mothers. She loved her career and would often talk about the babies. For over seven years, the staff at A.G. Rhodes Health and Rehab assisted with the love and care of Marie. She received visits from friends and family including weekly visits from Brother Wesley Brown (until the decline of his health). She leaves to cherish her loving memories two daughters: Ruby (Charles) Warrior, Betty S. Burton; three sisters: Ruby Smith, Annie Bee Hunt, and Ella Mae Trawick; one brother: Eugene Rhodes; six grandchildren: Anthony (Michelle) Warrior, Charles (Angela) Warrior Jr., Dexter (Karen) Warrior, Jimmie Burton Jr., Courtney Burton, and Jarvis Burton; eight great-grandchildren: Broderick, Marc, Charniece, Ethan, Emanuel, Gabriel, Jamia, and Samantha; and a host of family and friends.
