She was born on April 15, 1943 in Mount Pleasant to Bernard Murphy and Mamie Gilbreath. She was a member of Nevills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Terry Lynn Mars; son, Dennis Mars; daughter, Karen Hanks; daughter, Kimberly Elliot; grandchildren, Marcus Mars, Duece Mars, LaShonda Nance, Christopher and April Nance, Brandon and Alicia Nance, Dustin and Katy Brown, and Jacob and Kellie Perry; great grandchildren, Ericka Nance, Alexus Nance, Xadrian Nance, Kaylon Henson, Nate Henson, Kash Nance, Kentleigh Nance, Ethan Nance, Lanna Nance, and Alyssa Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Roscoe Campbell, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Terry Ruthland; sister and brother-in-law, Bernadette and Bobby Kinslow; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Wayne Moss; sister, Bonnie Holt; sister, Phylis Hazel; and sister-in-law, Nancy Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Monkey Mars; her parents; her daughter, Angela Denise; her grandson, Wesley Daniel; her sister, Jo Campbell; and her brother, Phil Denny. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.
