Julio Vega, 65 a resident of North Providence, originally of New York City, has passed away peacefully on July 23, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family and friends after an 18 month battle with cancer. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Julio and Ana (Luz Estrada) Vega. He’s survived by his wife Maryann, his daughter’s Hilda, Amy, Erika, Shannon, Mariah, Jillian and his son Leon. Their spouse’s Carlos, Wendy and Robert. His brother Reynaldo, sisters Carmen, Gloria and Mari and their spouses Sonia, Carlos and Angel. He was loved by all especially by all his grandchildren, Melissa, Aly, Cristian, Amanda, Olivia, Emily, Robbie, Ethan, Gabby and Jaxson. Julio was married prior to his life with Maryann. When they got together there was a fortunate blending of families. He dedicated his love and devotion to the women with whom he chose to spend the rest of his life. Julio and Maryann lived, loved and enjoyed a romance that others wish for. Julio was a husband, father; grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, member of the church and a diehard Yankee Fan. He was an amazing provider, he worked at Center Coffee House in Rockefeller Center, an extraordinary Short hand cook with speedy hands, was featured in the New York Times in September 24, 1991. He later moved to Rhode Island, worked for Camille’s as a Sous Chef for 16 years. His work ethic was matched by none. Even though he put in so many hours at work, he always prided himself on the time that he spent with his family. He maintained a meticulous household was the ultimate do yourselfer and he could fix anything. He could spend hours playing with his grandchildren, making them laugh, being silly with them. He taught them that it is ok to be themselves and to enjoy life the way he did. His favorite time of the year was the holidays. He always prepared a thanksgiving feast and everyone was welcome He loved sitting by the Christmas tree watching the little ones open their presents. He has positively impacted the lives of countless people and has left a legacy of excellence for his children and grandchildren. A special thank you to the staff at Lifespan, especially to Jenn Patullo who went far beyond being a wonderful and compassionate nurse and also to Hospice care of Nursing placement for their loving care and support during his final days. The family would like to extend their gratitude towards Maceroni Funeral Home and Cremation Services for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time. His funeral will be held Tuesday July 30, 2019 at 9 a.m. from the Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston.
