Juan V. Melendez, 91 of Trenton has been accepted into God’s loving embrace on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Capital Health Helen Fuld surrounded by his beautiful family. Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, “Don Johnny” as he was referred to by his family and friends, moved to Manhattan in 1948 to begin his hard working career at NYU until he retired. Once Mr. Melendez retired, he moved to the Trenton area. He was a very strong, independent, and caring man who was always willing to put others before himself. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed quality time hanging out with his family and friends.Mr. Melendez is predeceased by his parents, Francisco Vega and Carlita Melendez, wife, Blanca Estrella and former wife, Rosa M. Vega, daughter, Gladys Henry, sisters, Iris Vega and Carmen Vega.Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his loving children; Miriam “Margie Santos (Bert), Maria Ashford, Diana Vega, Carmen Lacharite, Juan Vega, Eileen Waters, and Yvette Ramos, a sister in Jersey City and 3 sisters in Puerto Rico, 18 caring grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren, and a great great grand daughter, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and great friends will miss him deeply.Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 26, 2019, 11:00am at the Chiacchio Southview Funeral Home, 990 South Broad Street, Trenton NJ 08611 (parking facility and handicap access located directly behind the funeral home). Visiting hours for family and friends will be held from 10:00am-11:00am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton Township.
