Jason Charles Russell, 39, of Eugene, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019, due to injuries sustained in a boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was born on December 21, 1979, in Jefferson City; a son of Charles and Susan (Van Sciver) Russell. Jason was a 1998 graduate from Russellville High School. There wasn’t anything that he wasn’t good at or a part of; he was the Vice President of his senior class, honor student, was in the National Honor Society, a basketball standout and a baseball standout. Jason attended Mizzou where he became one of their biggest fans. He also enjoyed watching the Cardinals and the Blues. Jason loved playing golf, watching the Chiefs and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the NECA and IBEW Local 257. Jason was the proud owner of Kaiser Electric of Central Missouri. Jason started racing in 1997 at the Double X Speedway in California, Missouri. In his racing career he had over 200 feature wins in street stock, sportsman, modified, and late models. Jason was a multiple time champion at Lake Ozark Speedway, Lucas Oil Speedway and Callaway Raceway. He was named the United Late Model Association National Champion in 2012 and 2013. He is survived by his girlfriend: Kim Jourdon; parents: Charles and Susan Russell; paternal grandparents: Clarence and Mary Russell; maternal grandmother: Susan Van Sciver; step-daughter: Sassy Brooke Ponder; brother: Justin Russell (Tiffany); sister: Jeanette Russell; nephews: Ace O’Neill and Blaine Russell; nieces: Kylee Russell and Charley O’Neill; uncle: Herbert Russell; aunts: Theresa Russell Sapp (Rick), Kathy Carrender (Jerry), Judy Van Sciver and Debbie Brittain (Andy) and his trusty companion Duke the german shepherd. Jason was preceded in death by his grandfather: Richard Van Sciver and aunt, Kelly McClanahan Russell. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in Jefferson City. Celebration of Life will Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Lake Ozark Speedway at 10:00 a.m. with Raceway Ministries officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
