James Taylor “Lucky” January 11, 1937 – July 04, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook James Taylor, Jr. was born on January 11, 1937 to the late James Taylor, Sr. and Edna Taylor in Charleston, South Carolina. He was affectionately known as “Junior” to his family, and also known as “Mr. Lucky”. His family migrated to Harlem, New York at an early age. He continued his education in the New York City Public School System. In the 1960’s, he met and married Elenor Taylor and from their union came three children, Sharon, James and Vilanda. All his children from their union preceded him in death. I’m sure this was a painful blow to his life. James had a professional career working as a pest control specialist for over 45 years. He also spend many evenings taking pictures of celebrities and headliners at the famed Apollo Theater on 125th Street, Harlem, NY with one of his best friends, “Ruby” whom he worked with. In the 1970’s, James moved to the Bronx. The Bronx is where he met Doreen Johnson. They added to his family, Amaar and Anise. James was a dedicated family man. There was many family celebrations and gatherings inside his house. He loved his children and was well respected by the people who knew him. James was very skilled at raising plants. He was known as the man with the green thumb. One thing for sure Lucky loved to dress. He had a flair for the latest fashion, something like a fashionista and he wore his clothes well!! He lived in different sections of the Bronx where he met and produced many friends. He was a mild mannered as well as humble man which spoke volumes to his character. As time moved forward James retired and moved back to Harlem. He resided with his son Amaar for years. He was very active. He was not the man who would let grass grow under his feet. He joined the community senior citizen center in Harlem. He stayed active in visiting family and going to events. He fought a good fight after his diagnosis of lung illness. His son Amaar performed daily health care until his passing on July 4, 2019. James leaves to mourn: two children, Amaar and Anise; two sisters, one brother, nineteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, aunts, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
