Asheboro Hugh Deryck Lawson On the morning of July 19, 2019, Hugh Deryck Lawson passed away at the age of 66, resting peacefully in hospice care in Asheboro, North Carolina, after a mercifully short cancer battle. Hugh was born on September 15, 1952, in San Francisco, California, to Deryck and Jean Lawson. After growing up in Dallas, Texas, Hugh married Andrea Upton on June 24, 1972. Exploring the world in their youth, Hugh and Andi gave birth to two children, Rebecca Jean and Daniel Deryck, and eventually settled in Asheboro, in 1979. A self-made man in business and life, Hugh was happiest in the company of his beloved wife of 46 years until her recent passing. His dedication in maintaining a comfortable and happy home for his family was best illustrated by the immaculate landscaping of his sanctuary, which was often complemented by other experts in the field. An avid golfer, his light-hearted wit and smooth swing made his participation in any foresome, a highly coveted engagement. The sole proprietor of Meats Unlimited for almost 40 years, the “meat man” was known by countless individuals all across North Carolina for his unwavering ethic of personal service. Rarely short on temper, always ready to joke around, he set a fine example of a gentleman and family man. Hugh is survived by his two children, his mother, six sisters, one brother, four grandchildren, and other family and friends scattered across the country that will greatly miss his easy going spirit.
