Fernie Chavez February 20, 1935 – July 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Jose Fernando “Fernie” Chavez, 84 of Santa Rosa, NM passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at his home. He was born February 20, 1935, to the home of Alberto and Margarita (Olivas) Chavez. He attended Santa Rosa schools. Fernie was a self-employed painter. He painted many homes in Santa Rosa and the surrounding area for over 60 years. He was a lifelong resident of Guadalupe County. He was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a member of AARP, and attended the Campos Senior Citizens Center. According to his family, Fernie enjoyed dancing and visiting with his many friends at the local coffee shops. He was a very out-going and social person. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maggie Chavez, two infant sisters, Dilia and Rosenda Chavez, a brother Albert Chavez, four sisters Jesse Chavez, Ramona Padilla, Connie Aragon, and Corrine Marquez. Survivors include two sons, Patrick Chavez (Julie) of Rio Rancho, and Andrew Chavez (Mary) of Albuquerque, two grandchildren, Felipe Chavez and Andrea Chavez of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his siblings, three sisters Liz Romero (Carlos) of Santa Rosa, Annie Campos (Leroy) of Santa Rosa, Margaret Padilla (Victor) of Albuquerque and Ernie Chavez (Rose) of Albuquerque along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A rosary, funeral Mass and burial will be held in Santa Rosa. Time and date are pending. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third Street, Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
