Emily Morgan Childers of Hickory, who, if only for a brief time, God shared her rare beauty and gifts with her family and friends. Emily left this earthly place on Thursday, July 18, 2019 and now rejoices in His peace and His presence. She was born August 24, 1998 in Catawba County, the daughter of LaDonna Childers Hodge of Hickory and Brent Childers of Lenoir. Emily was a student at Caldwell Community College and attended South Caldwell High School. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters Megan Childers Poythress, who resides in Granite Falls with husband Isaac Poythress, and twin-sister Brooke Childers of Hickory; her brother Forrest Childers of Fort Mill, S.C.; her stepmother Roxanne Childers of Lenoir; her stepfather, Randy Hodge of Hickory; her grandparents, Don Beard of Lenoir and Jerry and Gail Childers, both of Granite Falls; a great grandmother, Verna Brookshire of Granite Falls; her uncles Donny Beard of Hickory and Todd Childers of Raleigh; her aunts, Daphne Beard Moore of Lenoir and Sonya Childers of Austin, Texas; her niece Londyn Poythress and her nephew Jack Poythress, both of Granite Falls. Also surviving are her step brothers, Jason McGhinnis of Wilmington, Seth McGhinnis of Asheville and Alex Hodge of Charlotte; step sister, Amy Hodge of Granite Falls; her step niece Katie McGhinnis of Durham and step nephew Jacob McGhinnis of Durham and their mother Laura McGhinnis of Durham; her step grandparents, Roy and Peggy Icenhour of Lenoir; and godparents, Bill and Pat Adkins of Lenoir. Emily had that spiritual desire and ability to embrace all those around her with kindness, love and acceptance. It was part of Emily’s natural beauty and the family will honor that in a place next Wednesday that Emily enjoyed – where the water runs deep and wings soar above together now with her spirit. The memorial service will be held at Brown Mountain Beach Resort in Lenoir at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at which time friends and family will gather to remember and honor Emily as the truly beautiful and talented young woman who her family and so many friends knew and loved. All are welcome. Come as you are and dress as you want. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice to help those in need.
