Donald Edwin Griffin and his twin sister Dorothy were born May 9, 1926 in Erie, ND. He attended school and graduated from Tower City High School 1944. In high school, he was the president of the new Future Farmers program. He enlisted in Navy Air V-5 program but he was still in school at the University of Wisconsin when the war ended. He returned to Wisconsin and graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1948. He also received a Bachelor of Naval Science degree and a commission as Ensign USNR. When he retired he was a Lieutenant Commander. Don was in the reserves for 22 years and 8 months. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma, a professional Chemistry fraternity. He accepted employment with General Electric Co., Richland Washington. He later earned a MS Chemical Engineering from University of Idaho. Don married Barbara Jean Finner in Richland, Washington on June 18, 1949. Their marriage produced four children: Deborah, James, Marsha, and Alan. They had six grandchildren: Jason, Jared, John Michael, Christopher, Kellie and Robert; and six great grandchildren. Don accepted employment with American Cyanamid at the Nuclear Reactor Test Station in Idaho Falls in June 1952 and joined Phillips Petroleum Co. in September 1953. Don retired August 1, 1985 from Phillips and its subsidiary, Applied Automation after 31 years. He secured 1 patent for Phillips and shares of several others. On October 23, 1988 Don was named a Fellow of American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Don was active member of the Elks Club, serving in many positions including Exalted Ruler. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bartlesville he enjoyed singing in the choir, bible study classes, and serving as an ordained elder. Don was a member of Bartlesville Community Singers for many years. He also loved his time teaching computers to 2nd Graders. He also enjoyed woodworking.
