Daniel Kovach, age 85, of Milbank, died on July 12, 2019, at Avantara Milbank. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Rev. Kent Groethe will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Milbank City Cemetery. Daniel Kovach was born on June 24, 1934, in South Bend, IN. He was the son of Paul and Mary Kovach. As a young man, Daniel joined the United States Air Force. He made a career of his military service and served in Germany, Iceland, and many states. While in Germany, he met the love of his life, Edelgard Margaret Mata Gada. They were united in marriage on October 15, 1964, in Berlin, Germany. Daniel and Edelgard were blessed with 55 years of marriage. In 1971, Daniel was transferred to Crescent City, CA. Daniel later retired, due to health reasons. Daniel and Edelgard very recently moved to Milbank to be closer to their family. Daniel was a very active man and was a huge Cubs fan. He was a great bowler and won many tournaments. He enjoyed archery, cribbage, golf, and participated in horse-shoe tournaments. Daniel was a talented carpenter and enjoyed building construction. He loved a walk or a bike ride with Edelgard. He was proud of his military career and was a life member of the American Legion, DAV, and Sergeant Association. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Edelgard; daughter, Sabina Kovach; granddaughter, Becky (Ryan) Bjerke; and great-grandchildren: Arabella Bjerke and Atlas Bjerke. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Mary Kovach, Annie Kovach, Paul Kovach, and Johnny Kovach.
