CHARLES “MONTE” Wheeler, After a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, Charles passed away Sat., Feb. 16, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born July 9, 1938 in Canton, OH and spent most of his life growing up in the North Industry-East Sparta area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hanley and Audrey (Sickles) Wheeler of East Sparta, his wife’s parents, Raymond and Ruth (Smith) Forester of Minerva, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Antoinette Forester. Charles graduated from Canton South High School in 1956 and worked at Republic Steel. He then accepted a Painting Apprenticeship. Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served Basic Training at Fort Knox and then to Germany’s Berlin Wall. In 1963 he returned home and worked for Timken Roller Bearing Co. in the Police Department and finished his working career for the U.S. Postal Service. He was active in the A.P.W. Union and served as local President and Steward and is also a member of the A.P.W.U. Auxiliary and NARFE. Charles was a 55-year member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church and a 53-year member of Canton Lodge #60, F. & A. M, a lifetime member of the Massillon American Legion and a 50+ year member of the Louisville Eagles. Charles is the first of ten siblings to pass away. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donna (Forester) Wheeler and siblings Hanley and Ruth Wheeler, Charles and Sherry Tubbs, William Wheeler, Alice Anaston, David Wheeler, Dale Wheeler, and Michael and Deborah Higgans. He was preceded in death by his only son, Nathaniel Wheeler, grandson Daniel Wheeler, sister-in-law Ruth (Dale) Wheeler and former brother-in-law Roger (Brenda) Tubbs. Charles is survived by seven nieces and ten nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Survivors include daughter-in-law Vicki Bates, granddaughter Kerri Wheeler, great granddaughter Elaina Dearth, Grandson Nathaniel Wheeler, great grandson Carter Wheeler, former sisters-in-law Cindy Horton and Betty Wheeler, and many close friends including Joe and Charlene Stelluto, Donna Porter, Joe Abbonizio, Mary Fearn, Marie Lekorenos, Tom Filliez, and Dixie Dimos. Our departed friends include Elmer Porter, Pat Abbonizio, Joe and Val Argyle, Robin Fearn, Chris Lekorenos, Nick Dimos and many more. The family wants to thank all the staff of Aultman Hospice and Palliative Care for all their help and loving care during his illness. Charles is missed by his dog Beauty and they both thank you for any donations to the Stark County Humane Society, PO Box 7077, Canton, OH 44705.
