Charles “Chuck” William Rodgers, age 93, of Berlin, WI passed peacefully on early Sunday morning, June 30, 2019 at Patriot Place in Berlin, WI. Chuck was born on December 6, 1925 in the township of Nepeuskun, WI to Henry and Catherine (nee Pick) Rodgers of Berlin, WI. He attended Koro School and Berlin High School, graduating early in 1944 in order to join the Navy. Chuck served during World War II from 1944 – 1946. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy (S1C), he met his wife of 70 years, Shirley (nee Mattice) of Redgranite. They married on June 11, 1949. Together they raised four amazing children; Cheryl Rodgers of Berlin, Sue (Mike) Mrdjenovich of Sheboygan, Tom (Sue) Rodgers of Jacksonville, Fl, and Tim Rodgers (special friend Ginny Wallace) of Berlin. In addition to his wife and children, Chuck is also survived his brother- in-law Bob (Wanita) Mattice of Redgranite and a sister-in-law, Doris Mattice of LaBelle, FL. He is further survived by five grandchildren (Drew Rodgers of Berlin, Megan (fiancé Ryan Stubbs) Mrdjenovich of Kohler, Eric (fiancé Oliva McDonald) Mrdjenovich of Kohler, Collin Rodgers of Berlin, and Courtney Rodgers of Berlin), seven great-grandchildren (Ezra, Hayden, Austin, Sophie, Mikey, Liam, and McKenzie), nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Joyce Rodgers and Lucille (Pete) Murkley, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Chuck was a member of the Speed Queen retirees, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 3400 of Berlin, a 26 year member of the Berlin Fire Department (retired in 1993), a lifetime member of the WWII memorial in Washington DC, and lifetime member of the Berlin Veterans Foundation, and a 75 year member of the Berlin Alumni Association. He loved to be busy and lend a hand wherever he could. He had a great love of woodworking; making cabinets, lawn ornaments, and cedar chests. He also had a great love of John Deere lawn tractors, mowing the lawn and caring for the various fruit trees at home. Chuck was the foreman of the family, helping and/or supervising whenever he could, telling great stories, and leaving lasting memories for so many to share. The impact he had on his family, his friends, and in his community will be deeply missed. “So long and have a good day” – Charles W.
