Patterson, 90, formerly of Spartansburg, Pa., beloved father, entered his eternal rest Monday, July 29, 2019, lovingly surrounded by his family at Country Acres Personal Care Home. He was born May 6, 1929 in Spartansburg, Pa., the son of the late William Zahner and Leah Bradford Zahner. Carl’s mother died in childbirth and he was later adopted by the late Merle and Fay Lafferty Patterson-Bury and was raised in Wesleyville, Pa. Upon graduation from Wesleyville High School in 1947, Carl worked at Smith Meter until he entered the Air Force in 1948 and served during the Korean War. After boot camp in Lackland, Texas, he was stationed in Ohio until he was sent to Adak Island on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska for one year. Carl then returned to northern Texas and Geneva, N.Y., where he served his final year of service. Upon his honorable discharge, Carl found employment at a wholesale warehouse in Erie where he worked for four years. In 1956, he moved to Corry and became employed at McInnes Steel Company and later moved to Spartansburg where he raised his family. He worked at McInnes Steel until his retirement in 1994. Carl was a member of the Corry American Legion. He enjoyed watching football as an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and going on fishing outings with his wife and sons. His devotion to his family was apparent with his many years of hard labor to provide for his family. Carl led a joyful life and taught us how to find humor in everything with his quick wit. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Arnold Patterson. Carl is survived by two daughters, Denise (Rick) Albers and Michelle (John) Kozuchowsky of Spartansburg; four sons, Don (Glenda) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ron (Elaine), Roger (Laurie) and Stacy (Kim) all of Spartansburg, Pa.; and a foster son, Ricky (Karen) Johnson of Spartansburg, Pa. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Stephanie, Carrie, Steven, Heather, Jamie, Andrea, Jennifer, Joshua, Serenity, Shawn, Sarah, Rachel and Gavin; and 15 great-grandchildren.
