Carl Franklin Simmons, age 86 of West Jefferson died Monday, July 15, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Simmons was born May 27, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late Thomas and Effie Greene Simmons. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Terry Freeman Simmons and 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Mr. Simmons was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of West Jefferson. He was also a charter member of the Ashe County Rescue Squad, a member of West Jefferson Fire Department, Odd Fellows and a former member of the Jaycees. Carl retired from United Chemi-Con after 41 years of service. He was well known in the community for helping others and was a funny man who loved to play practical jokes. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of West Jefferson by Rev. Dr. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm one hour prior to the service. Mr. Simmons is survived by, his wife, Mary Simmons, son, Thomas “Tommy” Simmons and wife Cathy of West Jefferson, daughter, Teresa Simmons Smith and husband Scott of Grover, brother, Kenneth Ray Simmons of Hudson, daughter-in-law, Tammy Simmons of Thomasville, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
