Andrew Paul “Andy” Antush, age 93, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at O’Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville, following a short illness. He was born on November 20, 1925 in Lore City, Ohio and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 52 years. After graduating from Lore City high school, Andrew managed the family farm with the help of his siblings. In 1946, he enlisted in the US Army, became a Corporal, and served in Italy with the 88th Blue Devils division, and then later with the 82nd Airborne division. He received both a WWII Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. After completing his service, he attended Bliss College in Columbus, Ohio with assistance under the GI bill, and in 1951 received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in accounting and minoring in business organization, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1953. He was employed by the Lake Terminal Railroad as a Weight Master, and the General Paint Company as a Cost Accountant. Thereafter, he owned and ran a Dairy Queen located in Oberlin, Ohio. Later, he was employed by the Lorain County Human Services Department, initially as a Finance Officer, then as Assistant Director, and finally as Acting Director, and retired in 1991 after 31 years of service. He was registered as a Public Accountant in Ohio, and a Member of the American Public Accounting Society. Andrew has been a long-standing parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church located in North Ridgeville and was active in the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd and 4th Degree Member. He was also a member of the American Legion and volunteered at the North Ridgeville Senior Center in the Meals on Wheels program. In his spare time, Andrew enjoyed sports, both playing and watching them, and loved working outdoors in his garden and orchard. Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Jean Marie (nee Latko); children, Bonita Marie Hurst of Avon Lake and Ronald Andrew (Kelly) Antush of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Caroline Marie Antush and Andrew Mitchell Antush and sister, Rosella “Betty” Andrews of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Rosella (nee Pipa); siblings, Michael, Mary Gardinsky, John, Ann Yanosky, Sue Zavodny, Helen “Nellie” Killiany, Margaret Antush, Agnes Gardinsky and Joseph Antush. Friends may call Friday from 5-8PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville, where a Rosary service will be held at 7PM. A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 9:30AM followed by a 10AM Mass at. St. Peter Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elyria. VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville will conduct full military honors. Memorials in Andrew’s name may be made to the St. Peter Memorial Fund at St. Peter Church.
