John came into the world as the eighth child of Sam and Rose Kidwell on July 13, 1965. He weighed 10 lbs. 2 ozs. He immediately became known as “Big John” and was, also, the tallest of his nine siblings. John was later called “Big Bad John” but he was a loving soul with a kind heart spreading smiles and words of love at every opportunity. John always took time to visit with you. He shared his passion for music by teaching his nieces and nephews the harmonica and guitar. John praised and encouraged their progress, acknowledged their accomplishments, and ended family conversations with, “I love you.” John attended Republic High School and graduated in June 1983. He was a member of the high school band playing the trumpet but always wanted to learn the drums. John was an excellent self-taught guitarist who enjoyed playing for family and friends. He was the lead guitar for the band “Force of Habit.” When John’s mom, Rose Kidwell, passed away, he wrote a special song in her memory and played it at her wake. John’s friends and family remember his home at Cook Mtn. Trailer Court as an open, relaxing place to gather for visiting, playing music, dancing, sharing stories and laughter. John’s hobbies included downhill skiing, building model cars, hiking, swimming, fishing exploring the back roads of Ferry County, and playing his guitars. He was artistic, poetic, a songwriter and, definitely had a flair for entertainment with his humorous writing skills. In later years, John and his three brothers enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby together. As a child, John enjoyed scouting out his home turf of Flag Hill on foot and on horses with his dogs over the years…Ralph, Punta, and Poochie. He once helped rescue Ralph from a mine hole. John’s work history included Normax Corp. (landscaping), Woods Creek Farm (groom), Tom Kidwell Racing Stable (mucking stalls and grooming), Newmont Exploration (assistant surveying), Vaagen Brothers Lumber Co., The Industrial Co. (construction), Knutz Logging, Brown Logging, Bardwell Logging, Nanamkin Logging, Clement’s Custom Logging, Pipkin Construction (flagger) and wildland firefighter at the Mt. Tolman Center in Keller, WA. John Kidwell was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Rose (Seyler) Kidwell. His surviving relatives include four brothers Sam (Dee Dee) Kidwell; Dan Kidwell; William (Sandy) Kidwell; Tom Kidwell; four sisters Brenda (Doug) Kellogg; Cynthia Kidwell; Wendy (Allen) Hill; and Artie (Mike) McRae. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends. John’s family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, search efforts, and condolences. They request you remember and savor the good times, the memories, the laughter and B.S. Remember his smile, his guitar in his hands, and keep him near in your heart.
