Joann Ungard, 81 of Swansea, Illinois passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 8, 2019. Born on August 5, 1937 in East St. Louis, Illinois, she was the daughter of Walter and Eleanor (Luchsinger) Winning and they precede her in death. Joann married Bill Ungard in Las Vegas, Nevada and they spend many happy years together prior to his passing. Joann was also preceded in death by a great-nephew, Eric Pelate. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark Mahan of Missouri and Kim Seger of Swansea, Illinois. Joann is also survived by her dear sister, Nancy Bess of O’Fallon, Illinois and a niece, Cindy Hackleman of Reno, Nevada and a nephew, Kris Bess of St. Louis, Missouri. Great-nieces, Monica LaChauga, Amber Kalagian and Brittney (Mark) Elders and great-nephew, Michael Kalagian. Joann spent her working years doing what she loved, caring for children in a day care center. She was known as a very kind lady who loved life and lived by the golden rule. Adored by her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as the “cool aunt.” Services are currently pending at Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois. Information on graveside services will be available soon.
