Jerry LeRoy Ward, 83, of Sterling peacefully passed away with his children by his side Saturday, April 20, 2019. He was born on March 17, 1936 in Chickasha, OK, then moved to Sterling when he was 16 and started work in the oilfields. He met the love of his life Jeannie Volcic and in 1954, they were married. To this marriage, were born 3 children: Larry, Lee, and LuAnne. Jerry began driving a truck when they started their family. He later formed his own business with his sons, Jerry Ward Trucking and Sons. He spent over 60 years driving trucks all over this country. He drove everything form 2 sticks to an automatic. He often said he almost put his foot through the floor board looking for the clutch or hurt his shoulder reaching for the stick. Growing up he would often tell us “he drove more miles backwards than we would ever go forward.” He was an inspiration to many for many who started driving trucks and several people learned a lot from him about driving. Known to his trucking budddies as “LeadFoot.” A name he came by naturally! His friends he drove with knew he was a prankster and have lots of fond memories, the stories are endless. Being a very light hearted person, Jerry’s only hobby was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim Ward and Velma Behrensen, wife Jean Ward, son Larry Ward, grandson Aaron Ward, sister Margret Owens. Jerry is survived by his son Lee (Beth) Ward, daughter LuAnne (Mike) Gardner, grandson Josh (Michele) Gardner, granddaughter Linsey (Corey) Dusin, grandson Casey (Chelcie) Ward, Travis (Zenida) Ward, Logan Ward, 5 great-grandchildren, sister Jimmy Korbe. Visitation will be Thursday, April 25 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 26 at 10 am at Tennant Funeral Home.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jerry LeRoy Ward 2019.
