Bill’s Obituary William L. ‘Bill’ Smith, age 82, Joplin, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2019 at Mercy Hospital. Bill was born June 30, 1936 in Miami, Oklahoma to the late Lawrence Smith and Juanita Washington Smith and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life. Bill worked as a national bank examiner for many years. He owned and operated Smith Loan Review for several years. Bill was a longtime member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was a member of Gideon’s International and was a veteran of the United States Army. Bill enjoyed golfing and bowling and loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. Bill married Katrina Zoe Zentner on April 11, 1981 in Joplin. She survives at the home. Additional survivors include a brother, Ross Smith, Florida; two step sisters, Judy Anderson and Helen Ranz, both of Joplin; nephew, Jason Smith, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; niece, Kendel Wynn, Missouri City, Missouri; unofficially adopted daughter, Joyce Turner, Joplin; and several other extended family members. Services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Heights Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie Burnett will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Jackie Jacobs, Eddy Wynn, Marty Zentner, Michael Hicks and Valter Dana. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Harmony Heights Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Heights Baptist Church or, to Gideon’s International, both in care of Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
